Here’s an idea: vacuum and then keep some windows open for a little bit. Then all you will be able to think is: everything here is FRESH.
I am having a big debate with myself right now. It is called: squares verses circles.
SQUARES VERSES CIRCLES
When I was about five I looked at the knobs on my bedside table, which are almost perfect spheres. I decided, at that moment, “circles are my favorite shape.”
However. If you know me then you know about my love of checker-patterns and my burning desire to be a tiny cube of dense metal. This doesn’t seem plausible. Circles? Pfft. Everyone knows your true love is SQUARES, you would say. Wouldn’t you. You’re always saying stuff.
Thus the debate. Are circles or squares my favorite.
Very important things are circles: the tops of coffee cups, most knobs in my house, the kitchen table, the base of hats, bicycle wheels and so on.
There are also important things that are squares (or rectangular – the point here is “squared corners” not “a polygon consisting of right angles”): most electronics in the house, the bathtub, envelopes, my desk, the box grader, etc.
I have two tables in the reading room: one is a tall brown circular side-table and one short black rectangular coffee table. I also have to reading lamps: one is a circle (lamp with a traditional shade) and one is a rectangle (an ancient gold-plated thing). They are both next to two different chairs: one is a wicker rocking chair (thus a rounded bottom) that has a straight back squared off at the top. The other is a dumpy green crushed-velvet number with four legs (i.e., squarish) and a rounded back.
This is what my relationship is like with Anthony. I think I’ll print off several copies of this, so that from now one when people ask me why I’m not going to Eugene, I’ll just hand them this picture.
